Bomber's instructions were simple: relax, row well, and leave nothing out there. We did just that...
... for the first three minutes. The push out of first post corner was excellent. Things were going just as planned. Then came Ditton and things began to fall apart, people tensed up, conditions deteriorated, hands began to bleed etc.
Overall not a bad marker for the start of the term and now it'd just a job of increasing the time it takes for everything to go to sh*t (hopefully to somewhere after the finish line).

A solid end to training week, with one simple goal: stay calm and relaxed.
We went through our start nice and calmly, before settling into a rhythm at a fairly quick pace. First Post corner was cleared without too much speed lost, and although we slowed down round Grassy we gained that speed back through Plough Reach. We flagged along the Reach slightly, but a call for a big push near the P&E gave us back the speed we had lost and more.
Overall, a pretty calm and consistent race, with lots of effort put in and a good time to show for it (I suppose this is what happens when you actually push hard...). Beating Corpus M1 by 10 seconds was a nice addition as well. Onwards and upwards from here!
M1, watch your backs...

Expectations for racing were high,
Across the whole course we did fly.
We rowed over at rate,
No catches were late,
And to shot glasses Queens II bid goodbye.

4th men's VIII, Lower VIIIs

Jesus 1 approached from behind;
A new racing line I did find.
They overtook at the bridge,
splits quicker by a smidge,
And to pull ahead they did wind.
Though our first couple minutes weren't bad,
Our timing then went slightly mad.
As my brother cheered on,
Jesus W1
Passed us slowly by, leaving us sad :(
2nd women's VIII, Lower VIIIs

I enjoyed that. First race as a senior cox, and whilst Lily isn't going to let me forget Ditton any time soon, I am reasonably happy. I spoke utter rubbish for 11:31 but that is fine because we won!
The crew did well, a strong rhythm from stern pair set the boat up to row a good race with no real die, they stayed strong. This was helped by the fact we steadily gained on Magdalene and eventually overtook them, providing some much needed motivation as I could give distance calls down the course.
Three years, three wins for me in Head of the Cam.
Michell Cup points
