9th in division 1
Up 1 - Bumped Newnham
Wednesday
Rowed over
There once was a FaT W1,
Who did not quake at the sound of the gun.
But Pembroke were fast,
Caught Newnham in a blast
then finally let FaT race past.

Lining up on station 10,
Waiting for the go when,
On the chain W1 swung,
Right before the gun,
and gave us a dodgy start.

Downing got inside their distance,
But FaT countered with resistance,
Despite their bankparty's insistence,
Our move highlighted our persistence.

Thursday
Rowed over
Bumped on first post the day before,
Newnham sure must have been sore.
We gained to a whistle,
Hoping for a comprehensive dismissal,
Then alas first post came.

Downing were back several lengths,
Our rowing was playing to our strengths.
But one, two, three clips of the oar,
Opened that door
And Downing moved to settle the score.

We pushed off to recover the race,
By then Downing were well inside base.
The might of FaT W1 triumphed above all,
and we responded to the call,
But crossing the finish was quite the haul.

You may wonder where Newnham had gone,
and whether we gained as we carried on,
due to the scare that had been put upon.
Sadly they gapped us, left us for dead,
leaving us bouncy water in their tread.

Friday
Bumped Newnham
Day two round two, take two, attempt two.
Whatever you want to call it.
Today we fought to right the wrongs of yesterday,
To go off hard and get right into the fray.

That we did, hitting a record 44,
Working hard to settle the score.
Under the bridge we gained the first pip,
So fast we were worried it might be a blip.
Then the whistles kept coming,
Newnham were succumbing!

Out of Grassy corner we got the second sign,
A sense that they were starting to decline.
Stroke by stroke, seat by seat, inch by inch,
We knew that we had gotten them into a pinch.
BUMPS PUSH NOW
Down through the speaker,
Newnham's fate only looked bleaker.

Round Ditton Corner came the third,
At this point my memory gets blurred.
From three came continuous came a crunch,
We had certainly dealt a punch.

Saturday
Rowed over
A situation we did not expect,
Chasing Catz to get closer to head (I'm not delusional I know we're nowhere close).
It shows that bumps prediction is a dangerous game,
Nothing is for certain, despite what people claim.

I personally thought Catz would go up,
Bump Churchill, but they were bang out of luck.
On day two bumped by Pem,
The old enemy again
Even if not predicted back then.

Again off the start we were quick,
But Catz were just that bit more slick
and Newnham were trying to give us some stick.

We defended Newnham admirably well,
and refused to get caught under their spell.
Down the reach they dropped back,
Coming under attack
And suddenly that was that.

No pressure from behind could bother us again,
Bomber called for a big ten.
The power wasn't there,
Catz could just stare
At our blades in the air
Not catching a scare
Or needing a prayer.

So ends the campaign of FaT W1,
+1 is good when all is said and done.
I have no regrets because I know that we tried our best.
