1st men's VIII, Academic (Medium)

6th in Academic (M), 136th Overall
Time: 19:50

The time - early. As a weary Isaac shepherded a groggy crew towards a deserted train station, M1 was on time.

We arrived at Furnival significantly less tired than observers on the journey up would have expected. Both boats were built really quite rapidly (with some help for M2 from M1) and we got out on the water.

Paddled down to the start line really cleanly, with great positivity and really ready to go. We watched some slightly better boats (like, you know, Leander) row past while Andrew experimented with the old English stroke style (a.k.a. trying to go to sleep between every tap - at least he's got his sit-up reps in) and Alex making sure all the crews around us knew how to cede the racing line to us (and outright rejected another innocent person because they studied education - like just shocking)...

Went into the race really well, and had a really great attitude throughout - first half we just kept it below Alex's target split (by a few pips) and second half we focussed on shouting "bowball" as much as was possible. According to Bomber we could have rated a pip or so higher (come on Csongi, your blade should be in 2 seconds earlier than ours not just one...)

Only 5 secs behind Cat's and 21 behind Maggie's, which is definitely an improvement given somewhat dubious performances in Bumps against these same crews.

Onwards to Mays after showing what we're capable of - just really need to bring that utter ruthlessness back to the Cam for the next term.
