Beat Jesus IV by 1.25 lengths
This was M4 at it's finest, in the sense that it was definitely 100% both M and 4
A composite of M2345W2+Lily, this was going to be a race to remember.
Toby and I were rowing the wrong side with various degrees of competence and complaining. (former was him, latter was me)
My hip flexor decided to remind me why I don't row bowside half way to marshalling.
My inside arm decided to remind me while I REALLY don't row bowside 100m down the course.
Marshalling was fun with some friendly faces on the bank.
Our practice start was interesting, because with 5 crews represented there were very different ideas in the boat about how to do a start sequence. I think I got to the catch for stroke 2 at around the time stroke reached bodies over.
The actual race went well - we got a seat on Jesus off the start and proceeded to take more out of them with every stroke.
Somewhere just after the railings George turned fully round in his seat to face the Jesus crew and scream "BOWBALL" as loud as he could. In an homage to my City Squad I replied "HONK" at full volume, a reference which precisely 0 other people present understood.
We pulled ahead to about 1/2 a length clear water.
They made a move under the bridge, but we did a final sprint to finish with 1/4 length clear.
A nice fun race, beautiful weather, and somehow less splash than W2's bumps campaign.
I 'umpired' this. We learnt from this race that M2 has eight bowsiders.
BOWWWBALLLLLLLLLLL!
