Up 3 - Bumped Pembroke II, Downing II and Emmanuel II
Tuesday
Rowed over
They had a good start, gaining steadily on Sidney I. Shortly after they past the motorway bridge they were on 3/4 of a length. Although the crew faded slightly out to 1 length. Then the second checkmate of the day occurred - carnage in the Gut. Re-row time.
Their start was nicer the second time and they had gained out to 3/4 in the first ten strokes. Unfortunately this was were they stayed. Sidney just reeled Pembroke II in for that overbump and not even the generous two whistles of Bomber could get the missing distance in time before Sidney bumped out.

Bumped Pembroke II
Is there anything better than winning a four boat sandwich around first post corner with 3 different overlaps?

We knew what we had to do and executed our race plan. A call was made around the ditch for a 1 minute fly or die push, with Darwin M1 quickly closing on our stern and Pembroke M2 approaching overlap on Downing M2. The crew responded well, halting Darwin's push for long enough to secure a (crunchy) bump halfway around first post corner, while Pembroke had significant overlap on Downing M2. Luke's accidental (or so he claims) crab upon holding it up resulted in Darwin (failing) to overtake on the inside of the corner, stopping their boat. This 'unfortunate' accident does mean the boat is set up well for the remaining days of bumps, even if there is a significant puncture in the bow.

Friday
Bumped Downing II
Despite harsher weather than yesterday (hail from the 1 min cannon to the bump) this was our best rowing yet. Our aim was simple: same as yesterday but better. We delivered. We reached 1 whistle within the first 5-10 strokes with calls of 3 quarters soon after. Our rhythm was effective and boat speed picked up as we dropped the rate from 40 to 36. From there 2 whistles were shortly followed by 3. We were told to put in one power minute and we did, bumping Downing halfway down first post reach.

Onto tomorrow: again but better
