1st men's VIII, Open Eights (Band 2)

3rd (+00:20) to Downing M1
Time: 6:22
A much better second race than the first thanks to the lack of an overhead crab for 200m of the race. Annoyingly it seemed that that was only worth 5s of time though.

Felt better in terms of loading and so hopefully we can keep working on that and shaving down the seconds between crews like us and the ones we're chasing. Ra ra First and Third.

1st Men's VIII, Open Eights (Band 3)

2nd (+00:08) to Jesus M2
Time: 6:27
Goose seemed insistent on not having an ability to use telemetry to measure his 8 watts and so overhead crabbed for 200m of the race, shearing his backstay in the process...

It was a pretty choppy row and definitely not our best.

2nd men's VIII, Open Eights (Band 4)

4th (+00:19) to Jesus M2
Time: 6:38
A hard and satisfying pair of 2Ks. Todays races were our third as an M2 crew, following on Head-to-Head and Newnham short course, and while direct comparisons are hard, it did seem like we met or exceeded our previous standard, especially in the second race. Our times for the two were nearly identical, marking the balance between scrappy keenness in the first and finessed endurance in the second. That, despite taking the second as a chance to practice a more bumps-like pacing, aiming to blow by the 1500. All in all it was a pleasant day out, if a bit cold (Jamie in particular went a bit blue), and good prep for our first regatta, next weekends, at Pembroke. (A.J.O. Lewis)

3rd men's VIII, Open Eights (Band 4)

5th (+00:19) to Jesus M3
Time: 6:54
A decent row on a nice course. We lacked aggression - probably put off by the unfamiliar feeling of feathered blades - but still held a decent rate for the course. This was probably our last outing in David Jones so we look forward to returning to our usual aggressive chopping in 803 (square blades of course). Many thanks to our subs who had already raced twice beforehand. (R.J.T. McLaurin)
Having had a "remember how to row strokeside" crash course in the M1 race beforehand, I went into my 3rd race of the day without much power left in my legs but with mildly better bladework.

As it stands, the row was quite solid and enjoyable - probably a tad too sustainable off the start, but the crew actually sustained it throughout the whole course and had a nice sprint for the finish.
