Mich Term 2012

Cambridge Autumn Head
Sat 20th October
A 2600m head race upstream, organised by Rob Roy, from the A14 road bridge to the top finish at Chesterton footbridge.
The Autumn Head is the first race of the term on the Cam. Attracting many town and college crews it is a useful form guide for the upcoming University IVs.

OMM (Original Mountain Marathon)
Sat 27th - Sun 28th October
A 2-day mountain marathon, formerly known as the Karrimor International Mountain Marathon (KIMM)
A 2-day mountain marathon in the hills of England, Scotland or Wales. Each day consists of a long-distance orienteering course, with controls up to 10km apart. Classes are 'Elite', 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'D'; a typical day in the 'A' class might consist of 30km distance and 2,000m ascent.

2.5 miles head race on the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, PA

University IVs
Mon 29th October - Fri 2nd November
A knockout competition for Cambridge College IVs over 2800m (light IVs), 2000m (men's coxed IVs) or 1300m (women's coxed IVs)
For College senior crews, traditionally the most prestigious event of term, and the main focus of the first half of term for the better senior College crews.

Physicists IV (1st division): Beat Jesus by 20 seconds in the semi finals and Lost to Caius by 6 seconds in the final
1st women's IV (1st division): Lost easily to Lady Margaret in the 1st round

Queens' Novice Ergo Competition
Tue 6th November
A 500m team ergo competition for Novice & Senior VIIIs.
The first taste of competition for the novice squads, most of the college boat clubs enter their novice crews in to this fun event.

Cambridge Winter Head
Sat 17th November
A timed head race over 2500m, from the Motorway bridge to the Penny Ferry pub.
For senior crews this is the final race preparation for Fairbairns and can be a valuable form guide; for a few novice crews, a chance to try out racing before the upcoming Clare Novice Regatta.

Emma Sprints
Sun 18th November
500m up the reach. Fancy dress and bribery are recommended!
A light-hearted knock-out regatta for novice VIIIs.

Viper (Division 1): Beat Magdalene NM1 in the 1st round and Lost to Christ's NM1 in the quarter finals
1st women's novice VIII (Division 1): Beat Magdalene NW1 in the 1st round and Lost to Emma NW1 in the quarter finals
The Vikings (Division 2): Beat Jesus NM3 in the 1st round and Lost to Christ's NM2 in the quarter finals

Clare Novice Regatta
Thu 22nd - Sat 24th November
A side-by-side knock out regatta for Cambridge College novice (beginner) VIIIs
With just a week before Novice Fairbairns, the "Clare Novices" offer all-important race practice and exciting side by side racing. Most college novice VIIIs enter.

Viper (Cup): Raced 3 rounds: Lost to LMBC NM1 Easily in the quarter finals
1st women's novice VIII (Cup): Raced 3 rounds: Lost to Christ's NW1 Easily in the quarter finals
The Vikings (Cup): Lost to Caius NM1 Easily in the 1st round
2nd women's novice VIII (Plate): Fitz NW2 scratched in the 1st round and Lost to Selwyn NW3 by 1 length in the 2nd round
3rd men's novice VIII (Plate): Beat Queen's NM2 by 2 lengths in the 1st round and Lost to Clare NM2 easily in the 2nd round
4th men's novice VIII (Plate): Beat Fitz NM2 by 1/2 length in the 1st round and Lost to Caius NM2 easily in the 2nd round

Novice Fairbairn Cup
Thu 29th November
A 2700m timed head race on the Cam for Cambridge College novice VIIIs
The main focus for Michaelmas term for all novice crews at Cambridge University.

Fairbairn Cup
Fri 30th November
A 4300m timed head race on the Cam for VIIIs
The main focus of Michaelmas term for all Cambridge college senior crews.

Fairbairn Cup - IVs
Fri 30th November
A 3200m timed head race on the Cam for College and Invitational IVs
Subsidary to the VIIIs event, a handful of college crews usually enter.

Christmas Head
Sat 1st December
Head race from the Pike and Eel to Goldie Boathouse
Organised by the city boat club, the Christmas head is a fancy dress race from the Pike and Eel to Goldie Boathouse. A week after the end of term, few college crews enter.
