Early lent term race practice for many college crews.

Newnham Short Course

A timed head race from the Little Bridge to the Railings (approx 1600m)
Only a subset of college crews race, due to the short head course offered

Robinson Head
Fri 5th February
A timed head race over 2200m - from Little Bridge to Peter's Posts
The last timed head race on the Cam before Lents - and a useful form guide with many college boats competing.

Head of the Nene
Sat 6th February
An important regional 5000m timed head race
Several of the top college crews travel to race at Peterborough, for this invariably unpleasant but key race in preparation for the bumps.

Pembroke Regatta
Sat 13th February
A side-by-side knock out regatta on the reach, over 1100m
An event for college crews run in 3 divisions. For many crews, the last race practice before the bumps, and a popular event.

1st men's VIII (1st division): Raced 4 rounds: beat Caius easily in the final
1st women's VIII (1st division): Raced 4 rounds: beat Christ's by 3 lengths in the final
2nd men's VIII (2nd VIIIs): Raced 4 rounds: Beat Pembroke II by a few seats in the final
2nd women's VIII (2nd division): Raced 4 rounds: Lost to Downing in the final
3rd men's VIII (College lower VIIIs): Raced 3 rounds: Lost to Pembroke M3 by 1 length in the semi finals
BPBC 1st men's VIII (1st division): Raced 4 rounds: Lost to First and Third by a long way in the semi finals

Lent Bumps Getting-on Race
Fri 19th February
The 2000m qualifying race for the Lent Bumps
The Lent Bumps are the focus of the term for college rowing, but only those boats finishing higher than 10th from the bottom of last year's races are automatically entered. All other crews must compete for the 10 places available.

Tue 23rd - Sat 27th February
The famous Cambridge University Bumps on the River Cam
The focus of the year so far. The Lent Bumps are smaller and less prestigious than the May Bumps, but nevertheless involve 69 men's and 52 women's crews.

2nd Trinity Challenge Sculls
Tue 9th March
A timed sculling race for singles, doubles and pairs over a course from Little Bridge to Peter's Posts, run by First and Third.
This is an historic event, but recently has been run continuously since only 1999. The event is for single sculls, both shell and clinker, as well as double sculls. This year pairs were invited to enter for the first time.

Women's Head of the River Race
Sat 13th March
The Women's Eights Head, on the Tideway in London.
The largest women's only race in the country, raced in early March over the Championship Course - 4 1/4 miles, with the stream, from Mortlake to Putney.

Kingston Head
Sat 20th March
5.3km head race on the upper Thames
A good warm-up for the Head of the River Race, taking place a week before

Head of the River Race
Sat 27th March
A huge head race on the Tideway (tidal river Thames) over the University Boat Race course
The largest annual VIIIs head race in the country, attracting most rowing clubs and many University and College crews. The course is 4 1/2 miles, from Mortlake to Putney.
