Summer 2006

St Neots Sprint
Sun 23rd July
A 500m race on the Great Ouse at St Neots
At the height of the summer holidays, First and Third entries at St Neots normally only come from the few members who have stayed on throughout the long vac - often in composite with alumni. Sunday's races are on a 500m straight, finishing ourside the St Neots RC boathouse.

Miscellaneous men's IVs (Senior3 IV+): against a winning crew from the day before in the quarter finals
Miscellaneous men's IVs (Senior 4 IV+): lost to St Neots RC by a canvas in the heats
Miscellaneous women's IVs (Women's Senior 2 IV+): Raced 3 rounds: lost to Milton Keynes by a canvas in the final

Peterborough Summer Sprint
Sun 13th August
A 4-lane 500m sprint on the Peterborough Rowing Lake.
A good chance to beat some quality opposition as they nurse their hangovers well into the afternoon.

Miscellaneous women's IVs (WS2 IV+): beat Auriol Kensington, Broxbourne and Newark to win by 2 seconds in the heats and finished in second place; lost to Reading by 5 seconds, beat Auriol Kensington and Broxbourne in the final

Gloucester Regatta
Sat 26th August
An 800m regatta held on the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. (Held this year in Ross-on-Wye due to engineering works at Gloucester)
The first leg of the infamous Gloucester-Bristol-Ross combination; consumption of alcoholic beverages has been fairly conservative so far and so you can expect some reasonable competition.

Miscellaneous men's IVs (Senior 3 4+): Lost to Gloucester by 2 lengths in the 1st round
Thompson/Cunha (Mixed Senior 2 2x): Lost after a brief encounter with the bank in the semi finals

Bristol Avon Regatta
Sun 27th August
A 500m regatta held next to the SS Great Britain on the historic Bristol docks.
The second part of the weekend including Gloucester and Ross regattas. Your opposition will no doubt be experiencing the effects of moderate consumption of drink from the night before; unfortunately, so will you.

Miscellaneous men's IVs (Senior3 4+): Lost to Bristol Ariel by 2 feet! in the final
Thompson/Cunha (Mixed Novice 2x): Lost to City of Bristol by 2 lengths in the final

Michell Cup
Thu 31st August
The Michell Cup, presented in 1923 in memory of Dr. R. W. Michell, is awarded by the CUCBC to the Boat Club giving the best performance on the river during the course of the academic year.
Points are awarded to Boat Clubs according to their performances in the CUCBC run-events. The rules governing the allocation of points can be found in Section 6 of the CUCBC Handbook.

Cambridge Autumn Regatta
Sun 10th September
600m side-by-side on the reach from the railway bridge to Ditton
One of the last regattas of the UK summer season, Cambridge Autumn is organised by the 99s. It's normally held too early in term to attract College rowers, but attracts rowers from the South East after one last pot.

Thompson/Cunha (Mixed Novice 2x): Beat Northampton by quite a long way in the semi finals and Lost to City by 4 lengths in the final

Boston Marathon
Sun 17th September
31 miles along the river Witham from Lincoln to Boston.
First rowed in 1946. It's still a long way. The race includes carrying your boat over a lock. It's making me tired just thinking about it.
