Club Committee
20014-2015 Manifestos
Alistair O'Neill - WLBC
I am a first year mathmo who is passionate about rowing and First and Third. In addition to rowing in my respective boats this year, I have appeared on Cam FM as a commentator for Lent Bumps and have been a frequent sub. I welcome the opportunity to participate further in the boat club.
Michaelmas: Bow NM2, Lent: Bow M5, Easter: Three M3.
Aims
Recruitment
- Chaplain's Squash: This is a great opportunity to get initial attention. In particular, I would suggest running a similar campaign to last year with the coupons for drinks at the boat cocktails.
- Boat Cocktails: Take this opportunity to sign prospective novices up for tubbing. We should aim to make the times available as flexible as possible and emphasise that there is no comitment at this stage.
- General: Use the success of W1 to advertise the strength of the woman's boat club. We should aim to dispell myths about rowing, especially with respect to people overestimating the commitment required.
- Organisation
- We should be as flexible as possible with outing timings
- Where possible, we should avoid morning outings as they are demotivating and not as productive.
- We should attempt to place novices into crews quickly to foster team work and consistency.
- We will aim to have a consistent training plan and coaches.
Social Events
- Organise plenty of swaps, particularly early on, with other boat clubs.
- More integration with the Men's Lower Boats: formal halls etc.
- Organise crew events to encourage team spirit with an emphasis on retaining novices.
