Nina Kamcev – Women's Lower Boats Captain

Although I noviced this year, I've rowed with all the women's crews, which puts me in a good position to know how the training works at each level and pick up as many tips as possible. It also allows me to have good relationship with many club members, so I'll do my best to cooperate with them and incorporate the novices into the club. Everyone knows how keen I am, I'm basically incapable of saying 'no', which is useful to get both myself and others going.

The first thing I'd do would be to organise big chats about people's novice terms and first years, and also any lbcs' experiences. I'm eager for a lot of cooperation between the men's and the women's side.

The aim of Freshers' Week would be to get as many people as possible to try rowing by standard means, but with stunning energy since I never would have tried if the boatie drinks weren't there or if the weather had been bad. Throughout the term, I would allow both casual rowing and ask for some pressure from the keen ones, gradually implementing the idea that rowing is a sport if possible. I'll make it clear that our aim is long term quality, and use novice races to motivate them.

I'm applying for this post because First and Third has become a major part of my life here. I would like to give back at least part of the effort that has been put into coaching us. I'll be staying here for a long time as I'm a first year mathmo, and want to keep watching and especially rowing in strong crews after many members have left.
