Vlad Paraoan - Men's Lower Boats Captain
As an MLBC for First and Third, these are the goals I would strive to complete:
- Have weekly meetings for Lower Boats – this is our chance to show our support to the novices, to keep them up-to-date with what we require of them, and to enable them to enjoy the lifestyle that comes with rowing.
- A top priority would be to sort out crews as soon as possible (ideally within the first week of training, or at the very latest the second week). I felt this was a major hindrance to the realisation of our potential last year.
- I plan to spend a great deal of time at the boathouse to teach novices the basics and get their technique up to scratch as soon as possible. I would be more than happy to coach outings in the beginning and then later hand over to more experienced coaches.
- I will emphasise the importance of discipline. This is something I have always admired about First and Third, and feel that it contributes greatly to the success of the club. I would translate this to the novices so that we minimise absences from sessions, avoid late arrivals and generally ensure that we get the most out the time spent training.
- Admin will be kept tight and up-to-date. Phone numbers will be used as the primary method to sort out subs etc. since this is more direct, whilst e-mail lists and the FaT website would be used for arranging outings.
- I will do my best to secure the best coaches we can for the novices.
- Focus greatly on Fairbairns as this is the biggest competition in Michaelmas, and use Queen’s Ergs as a way to get new members excited.
- During Lent Term, focus would be given to the lower boats i.e. M3, M4 etc. with training aimed primarily towards Pembroke Regatta and Bumps.
- Same basic aims for Lent as those in the previous term: secure experienced coaches, good use of water time, erg/weight sessions as often as possible using the Trinity Gym if necessary.
- Finally, I would encourage as many people as possible to become coxes in the hope that we may solve the lack thereof.
