Alex Caulfield - Secretary

I’ve been involved with First and Third for the past two years, rowing for W1 and more recently coxing on the men’s side of the club. As a WLBC this year, I’ve been involved with the coaching and organisation of the ex-novices and have plenty of experience of how the committee works. I’ve had a lot of fun this year and would like to continue my involvement on the committee next year as Secretary.

It is essential to the success of the club that the captains are left free to spend their time ensuring we maintain our position at the very top of college rowing. As Secretary, I would provide the best possible organisational support to both of the captains. My role would include making race entries, taking care of members’ bills, organising dinners, keeping the accounts in good order and chairing committee meetings. The main skills needed for a good secretary are therefore good organisation, time management and thinking ahead. I believe I am a good candidate in these respects.

My time as a WLBC has given me experience of how the committee works and I have a good knowledge of dealing with accounts through financial work experience and my role as finance director of our school Young Enterprise company. I am responsible/organised/not easily stressed!

Philipp has done an excellent job as secretary this year and I intend to continue his good work. My own personal priority is to secure a sponsor for the coming year. To maintain our excellent reputation as a club, we absolutely must sort out more funding. As Admin Officer on the May Ball committee for a period last year I was able to establish some contacts with companies. I will start looking into these over the summer, working closely with the new Sponsorship Officer to get a sponsor sorted for the next academic year.
