Paul Masset - Sponsorship Officer

I am a third year Engineer and have been rowing for First and Third since I arrived at Trinity. I noviced in NM1 and have rowed for M4, M3 and M2 since. I have enjoyed rowing for First and Third and I would now like to make a further contribution to the club by being involved in the committee.

Despite being the most successful college boat club in Cambridge, we have no sponsor. This means that although the club has enough funds to run on a day to day basis, there are no funds to buy new equipment, pay coaches, subsidise training camps and kit, etc.

My first priority as Sponsorship Officer would obviously be to secure a sponsorship deal for the club. I will continue to send letters as has been done done by the previous committee but I will also try to contact sponsors directly at events in Cambridge such as career fairs. I will also look into getting several smaller sponsors if this can allow us to get money in the short term.

To start with, I will ensure that there is a dedicated page on the website about sponsorship giving information to potential sponsors about what we are looking for and if possible a banner on the front page of the website. Most Cambridge societies with significant sponsorship deals have leaflets to hand out to potential sponsors outlining the benefits they would get by sponsoring them. I would make sure that such a document is produced and a slightly modified version could be used to send to coaches in schools and students applying to Cambridge.

Once a contract has been secured, I will make sure that we have a good relationship with our sponsor(s) by organizing recruitment events, inviting them to races, etc. In my second year I was on the committee of the Franco-British society which organised a large conference in cooperation with our main sponsor. Hence I have experience running such events and know what sponsors expect from student societies.

I have a good relationship with most of the members of the boat club and I also know well our Senior Treasurer, Prof. Kinsgsbury who as been my Director of Studies for three years. This allows me to speak comfortably as a representative of First and Third.

First and Third has been dominating the river for a few years now, if we want this domination to continue we need to make sure that we secure the funding to allow it to happen.
