Club Committee
2009-2010 Manifestos
My name is Katie Poseidon, and I’m a 2nd year historian running for WLBC. I noviced in 2007, and have rowed in the 2nd Lents and Mays boats. It goes without saying (but I’m saying it anyway) that I will work closely with the other LBCs, and luckily I get on well with all the candidates.
First of all, novice recruitment:
- Attract Freshers at the Chaplains’ Squash, and publicise as much as possible with flyers and posters
- Encourage tubbing sign up at the Freshers Drinks, and also bring alongother members of the club to encourage integration from the start
- Wear lots of stash during Freshers Week (and my height will encourage maximum visibility)
- Encourage college children/random freshers in the bar to row (all my children noviced this year)
Novice development:
- To keep everyone keen, emphasis how fun rowing is with swaps, crew pastas, and general bonding
- Work with the MLBC’s to organise as much tubbing as possible, then moving into IV’s and VIII’s as soon as possible to develop crew spirit, but continue tubbing sessions to work on technique
- Aim for 3 Novice VIII’s and establish senior members of the club as coaches
- Reward novices with food to keep them keen
Lent and May Terms:
- Starting Lent off with a training camp to encourage integration with senior rowers, and hoping to get 3 boats into Lent Bumps
- Continuation of socials, and working with MLBCs and KSS to keep rowing fun to keep as many novices as possible
