Julia Attwood for WLBC!

For anyone who doesn’t know me, I’m a second year engineer who noviced this year in order to understand what my boatie friends were talking about, and found out that rowing is the most amazing sport I’ve ever been forced into attempting.

I rowed with W2 in Lents, (and did not get bumped!!) and did more head races than I could care to count. I’m rowing in the Mays with W2 again, and am sure we won’t get bumped then either!

In general, I think I’d make a good WLBC because:

Recruiting Novices

I plan on helping to run an aggressive (but not scary) recruitment campaign to help all the new Trinity girls to find out that the best way to get some peace from the guys is to jump in a boat and glide down the Cam. I always help out in Fresher’s week, and so would be well placed to spread the word. Emails will be sent, cocktails will be proffered, and in extreme cases, loud advertisements made in the dinner queue.

Lents and Beyond

I want W2 to be even more amazing than it was this year. I’d also like to get more of the grads into rowing earlier, through liaising with the BA society for publicity and putting together a Grad’s VIII for the Lent Bumps. The Lents training camp is a brilliant way to get the novices rowing with the senior women, and I would love to help run it, and convince everyone to come back early for it! 4 boats in Lents is the target, and a high rate of novice retention through promises of flexible outing and land training schedules.

All in all, I just want to convince everyone else of the joys of rowing as well as you all convinced me!

Thanks for reading!
