Club Committee
2006-2007 Manifestos
Bryn Garrod - Webmaster
Why I like the website
- It has up-to-date race results, reports and photos.
- It is well-used by current and past members of the boat club, in particular the Results, Gallery and Message Boards sections
- It provides what is considered university-wide to be the definitive Bumps Results Service.
- Our results may vary, but our website is always better than everyone else's.
Why I like Martin Peck
- He made the website.
- He has offered to teach me the basics required to maintain the website and its databases.
- He captained the club to its most recent headship in Lent 2000.
What I would do
- Bumps
- Both the Instant Results Service and BumpIT are highly regarded in the university, and it is important to keep these running efficiently. Although it seems likely that Martin can continue to do so in the near future, it would ultimately be my responsibility.
- Results
- The Results section is largely maintained by members of the boat club. However, some results or crew lists are inevitably left off. Martin and previous webmasters have been good at chasing these up and also filling in complete results for head races---with the advent of BumpIT, this has become essential! I would make sure that this is continued.
- Archives
- A lot of the Archive pages are out of date or incomplete: these include pages containing information about boat club facilities, traditions and elections. I would first update all of this and then endeavour to keep it up-to-date.
- Maintenance
- Some maintenance can only be carried out by an administrator, and it would be my job to do this. This includes, for example, the editing or deletion of submitted photos and the addition of new members.
Why you should vote for me
- I have been an active member of the boat club for three years, as both rower and coach.
- I am keen to learn about web design for my own interest, and would therefore be enthusiastic in learning the skills required to run the website with as small a workload for Martin as possible.
- I was a Men's Lower Boats Captain in 2004--2005, so have experience of being on the First and Third committee.
- As a mathematician, I would have no problems in balancing a committee position with a busy social life.
- RoN has a poor record of active service on committees.
