Club Committee
2004 - 2005 Manifestos
Lilie Weaver - Kit and Social Secretary
Who am I?
At the moment I row for the 2nd women's May's, [look out for the short one rowing at two….]. I've been actively involved in the social side of the boat club since I joined, and I'm now the proud holder of a boat club thong! I already know plenty of guys and girls from other boat clubs, so will be able to maintain good contacts with those other people who occaisionally like to row on the cam.
What are my plans for KSS?
Social
There were a lot of enjoyable events this year which many of you will remember [or perhaps not..?!] which I'll look to keep the same. These include
- Drumps
- STCS cocktails
- Georgina trip
- Club formal
- Formal swaps [lots of them!]
- Fireworks party
- Novice BBQ
- After dinner Bops
There are a couple of things I would change however:
- Introduce a few novice formals, in Mich term, and encourage more novices to take part in formal swaps, as this is a good way to get people to keep rowing, and also provides some light relief from the nightmare that can be Mich and Lent rowing!
- Have more club formals, as I sometimes feel that there is not enough contact between the men's and women's boat clubs in a relaxed and social setting. This will hopefully help to ease some of the tension which inevitably arises between the two.
Kit
Kit is also an important part of the club, as it brings us a sense of unity, and makes us look like serious rowers. Besides, a crew well decked out in sexy FaT kit is guaranteed to turn heads wherever we are, and intimidate any red scum foolish enough to approach… Over the coming year I will endeavour to:
- Maintain regular kit orders, and encourage novices to buy [at least some] kit - again I think this will help their 'morale' - there's nothing like a well dressed novice crew to scare the opposition - and this will also help novice retention, something that I think is very important for the boat club in general.
- Ensure kit is of a high quality and affordable - let people know about the sporting expenses fund as a matter of course.
- Get some of our gorgeous men and women poncing about in all our lovely kit, then take photos, and stick them up on the web page - lets us all see exactly what we're buying.
- Ensure a wide range of kit is available, at a wide range of prices - everything from all in ones to umbrellas [for Rupert]; boat club underwear [which is great] to embroidered pogies!
Basically, I'm not going to let people forget that there is fun to be had off the river as well as on it, and I'm also going to make sure that the FaT boats are the best-looking, best dressed crews on [and off] the river!
