Lent Term 2000Fairbairn Cup Fri 21st January A 4300m timed head race on the Cam for VIIIs and IVs Postponed from the end of Michaelmas Term, there were far fewer entries than usual, but it was useful as an early indicator of the differences between the top crews. Fairbairn Cup - IVs Fri 21st January A 3200m timed head race on the Cam for College IVs Subsidary to the VIIIs event, a handful of college IVs usually enter. Cambridge Head-2-Head Sat 29th January A timed headrace in two parts, length 2x2600m Beginning of term race practice for many college crews. Head of the Nene Sat 5th February A 5000m timed head race of Regional Importance Most of the top college crews travel to race at Peterborough, for this invariably unpleasant but key race in preparation for the bumps. Robinson Head Fri 11th February A timed head race over 2200m - from Little Bridge to Peter's Posts An event for college crews, of more importance to lower boats than the top VIIIs. Bedford Head Sun 13th February A 2000m timed head race on the Great Ouse An event attended by a minority of Cambridge Colleges. The 1st men's VIII went to show everyone that they are a force to be reckoned with. Pembroke Regatta Sat 19th February A side-by-side knock out regatta on the reach, over 1100m An event for college crews run in 3 divisions. For many crews, the last race practice before the bumps, and a popular event. Lent Bumps Getting-on Race Fri 25th February The 2000m qualifying race for the Lent Bumps The Lent Bumps are the focus of the term for college rowing, but only those boats finishing higher than 10th from the bottom of last year's races are automatically entered. All other crews must compete for the 10 places available. Lent Bumps Tue 29th February - Sat 4th March The famous Cambridge University Bumps on the River Cam The focus of the year so far. The Lent Bumps are smaller and less prestigious than the May Bumps, but nevertheless involve 69 men's and 52 women's crews. 2nd Trinity Challenge Sculls Tue 7th March A timed single sculling race over a course from Little Bridge to Peter's Posts, run by First and Third. This race was brought back into existence in 1999 after an extended period. Timed single sculling head race, Little Bridge to Peter's Posts. Cardinal's Regatta Thu 16th March "a regatta unlike any other..." A fun post bumps regatta for mixed crews, with head starts for crews in fancy dress and widescale bribery of marshalls and race officials...! Head of the River Race Sat 18th March A huge head race down-river on the Tideway (tidal river Thames) over the University Boat Race course The largest annual VIIIs head race in the country, attracting most rowing clubs and many University and College crews.
