A timed headrace in two parts, length 2x2600m
Beginning of term race practice.

Robinson Head
Fri 6th February
A timed head race over a course shortened because of the floods - Gunshed to Peter's Posts
An event for college crews, usually of minor importance.

Head of the Nene
Sat 7th February
A 5000m timed head race of Regional Importance
Most of the top college crews travel to race at Peterborough, for this invariably unpleasant but key race in preparation for the bumps.

Newnham Short Course
Sat 7th February
A timed head race from the Little Bridge to the Railings (approx 1600m)
With many 1st and some 2nd VIIIs at Peterborough, the majority of crews entering are lower boats.

Pembroke Regatta
Sat 14th February
A side-by-side knock out regatta on the reach, over 1100m
An event for college crews run in 3 divisions. For many crews, the last race practice before the bumps, and a popular event.

Bedford Head
Sun 15th February
A 2000m timed head race on the Great Ouse
An event attended by a minority of Cambridge Colleges.

Lent Bumps Getting-on Race

The 2000m qualifying race for the Lent Bumps
The Lent Bumps are the focus of the term for college rowing, but only those boats finishing higher than 10th from the bottom of last year's races are automatically entered. All other crews must compete for the 10 places available.

The famous Cambridge University Bumps on the River Cam
The focus of the year so far. The Lent Bumps are smaller and less prestigious than the May Bumps, but nevertheless involve 69 men's and 52 women's crews.

Up 6 - Bumped Girton, Caius, New Hall and Churchill

2nd men's VIII: 4th in division 2
Up 2 - Bumped King's and St. Catharine's

2nd women's VIII: 6th in division 3
Stayed level - Bumped Selwyn II, bumped by Homerton II

3rd men's VIII: 9th in division 3
Up 3 - Bumped Jesus III, Girton II and Downing III

4th men's VIII: 10th in division 4
Up 2 - Bumped CCAT II and St. Edmund's

Gents VIII: 14th in division 4
Stayed level - Bumped LMBC V, bumped by LMBC V

Fairbairn Junior Sculls
Wed 4th March
A 2000m knock-out regatta in the 'chasing' format for single sculls
We put two entries in to what was this year a high standard competition.

Foster Fairbairn Pairs
Wed 4th - Fri 6th March
A 2000m knock-out regatta for coxless pairs raced in the 'chasing' format (boats starting 100 yards apart) from the posts before the motorway bridge to those by the pink house in the Reach.
The small boats races generally attract only a small number of entries - and by regularly entering crews we have had many successes in recent years.

The usual 4 1/4 mile race.

Head of the River Race

A huge head race down-river on the Tideway (tidal river Thames) over the University Boat Race course
The largest annual VIIIs head race in the country, attracting most rowing clubs and many University and College crews.
