How to play Bumpsdaq

Bumpsdaq is a kind of trading game but based on Cam College VIIIs, where your "shares" win you "money" (dividends) for winning races. There is plenty of information on the mechanics of it on the website, but here is quick overview of roughly what to do.

At the simplest level, the idea is to buy shares in crews which you think are going to do well in the various events coming up. However, to earn yourself a large share holding you also want to try and own shares which are rising in value.

The main screen is the Crew List page. This is shown in the first of the two windows below.

The important column is the middle column, which tells you which shares have been going up in value recently. However, once you have identified a crew which looks like it is going up a lot, first click its title to look at its performance in detail (shown in the second of the two windows above).

Here you can see how its rise has progressed over the last 24 hours - it might be that its share price is now levelled off or even falling, in which case you probably don't want to buy any.

If the price is rising still, then you may decide that you want to buy some, in the hope that it will continue to rise substantially. The easiest way to do this is using this screen, where the maximum number of these shares that you can afford is already filled in for you.

The other main page for you is your own personal account page - labelled "My Account" This will look a bit like this:

Here you can see what you own, and can sell things conveniently if any of your shares are dropping in price or you think you can do better with something else. The most important figure is what you are currently worth, which is circled on the diagram.

Beware that every time you buy shares it charges you 1% of what you spend. Things therefore don't go too well if you keep changing your mind! The real skill is anticipating what crew is likely to be going up in value soon - so you can buy some of the relevant shares very cheaply!

There are various complications that are introduced by various parts of the site only updating hourly, and a few extra rules, but these are explained in the Frequently Answered Questions or discussed on our bumpsdaq group mailing list!
