To the FAT of the land,
When I first started rowing for the First and Third I was overwhelmingly
impressed with the club spirit and general quality of blade control, but one
thing distressed me more than no other - the lack of a club song that could
be bellowed out with gay (sic) abandon when the boisterousness of the evening's
festivities reach that critical junction. Surely, I thought, centuries of
tradition would have supplied us with some meaningless verse with which to
exercise our vocal-cords after they had been adequately lubricated with
whichever magic fluid takes your fancy. Perhaps even in days long ago the
coxswain's participation in circuit training would involve providing song in
an angelic soprano for the crew to train to (and I don't mean last year when
the stereo was stolen). To cut a long story short, at last year's May dinner
many of you were treated to the soulful sounds of the 2nd VIII barbershop
quartet (times two... and plus one), and I thought the lyrics need be recorded
for posterity in that most permanent of modern archives - the webpage...
...and if there are any budding lyricists out there in FATland, feel free to
adapt and perform the victory song that has already proudly embellished many
bumps, the new FAT anthem: Row Hard!
[song lyrics moved to here]
Farewell all you FAT piemen (and women)!
