We set off, and hit 36 at 1:39 splits. We then dropped to 32, upon which Maddie called ‘we’re going back to 34 boys, up 2’.
George shouted: “No we’re not!” To our credit, the rate never dropped below 30 (on corners) and was usually 32.
Xander blew up and died by Emma footbridge, and was reborn (‘like a phoenix’) by Green Dragon.
Csongi thought that the finish line was at the P&E, and had a questionable set of ten strokes there. Oops.
George’s inside arm became painful almost instantly.
The less said about my rowing, the better? I think I put down more power on the paddle home.
We had quite a wide line around Green Dragon corner (Chesterton). This was possibly due to all that rebirth going on in the bow seat (The boat is currently bow-rigged, which also meant that I was rowing on bowside for the first time in a while).
We had great fun, rowed very mediocrely, and didn’t get beaten by any W4+’s. What joy! It would have been nice to beat the lightweights, after drawing with them in fairbairns last year. They’ve rowed more recently than half our crew, and probably didn’t have to hear “back to sub-2 splits please” during their race!

We had 6 minutes of good rowing in us. We rowed well for those 6 minutes. It was claimed by some foolish 5-seat that we could get top 5 if we rowed down the course and didn’t mess up. Oops.
Not the end to the term that we had hoped for, but not an absolute shocker. Losing to Corpus despite them crashing was painful, and losing to Catz by the same margin that we beat them in senior QErgs was also a pain (0.4 seconds).
We held 33, as was the plan, the whole way. There was a slight rise towards the finish.
The finish marshalling was actually OK, and I wasn’t absolutely frozen and out of it like last year, though I fear that that says more about my ability to completely empty the tank from first post than warmth?
It was nice to see M2 and NM1’s finishes.
