Club Committee
2010-2011 Manifestos
Matthew Griffiths - Men's Lower Boats Captain
About Me:
- First year Natural Scientist
- Current M1 rower and future Upper Boats Rower
- 5 years of rowing experience
Aims:
The Club currently has a problem developing novices to higher levels of rowing, specifically for M1, so I intend to:
- Provide support, guidance (and perhaps a little cajoling) to Lower Boats’ rowers who wish to develop their rowing.
- Provide and encourage the use of land training, specifically:
- Creating weights programs and supervising them.
- Collaborating with Ronnie Coleman.
- Setting ergs, as well as providing coaching during these.
- Monitor the performance of the athletes individually to ensure good progress is being made.
As development of Lower Boats Crews is generally agreed to be a good thing, I will:
- Coach and provide coaching for these crews.
- Oversee the development of these crews.
- Ensure Marcus Aurelius’ dream lives on.
My experience, as well as links within the Upper Boats squad will be useful in these aspects.
I recognize that there is no point in rowing if it is not enjoyable so I aim to cater to a broad range of rowers as well – some people just seem to think that training 10 times a week is a little excessive. The continuation of a strong social side to the club is important in keeping rowing fun and so good for the club’s longevity.
As for encouraging people to row, previous MLBCs have done a good job in encouraging people try rowing, so I will shamelessly copy them.
Wrapping Up (also for those who can’t be bothered to read)
My main aim will be to help the new intake derive as much benefit from rowing, with a focus on producing future M1 and M2 rowers.
