Chris Dunleavy for Secretary

As a member of First and Third for the past 6 years the club has had, and will continue to have my loyalty. I have experienced the club at all levels, originally as a relatively low commitment recreational rower and then as a dedicated member of the senior squad for the past two years. I am running for secretary because I want to ensure the continued success of the club. I have a profound respect for the work and dedication of previous secretaries in keeping things running smoothly. The wins on the water need to be backed up by proper organisation behind the scenes. I would aim to continue the good work Magnus has done in keeping better track of creditors and debtors, and ensure that, as well as organising race entries and dinners, the finances of the club continue to be balanced and transparent.

The position of Secretary is a demanding one, and I have no illusions in this respect. I thought long and hard and consulted the 3 previous holders of the post before handing in my manifesto. I feel that I have the required skills and experience not just to handle the role but to do it well. I have just finished a one year stint as Ents representative on the BA society committee and I am positive I could successfully meet the demands of working on this committee.

I must confess that I do not have prior experience with double entry accounts procedures. I am familiar with the theory however, and as a graduate student in physical sciences I have a head for figures and an attention to detail. I also have the luxury of setting my own timetable, which will be useful in helping me to cope with busy periods in secretarial responsibility. For example around the times of the boat club dinners or when members’ college bill contributions need to be worked out.

In short I have the commitment, time and skills required to keep the Boat Club running seamlessly, and to support the work of the committee as they strive to keep First and Third second to none!
