Club Committee
2002 - 2003 Manifestos
Coxing Captain - Andrew Fisher
The committee has recently discussed the merits of creating the post of "Coxing Captain". Since the position does not yet exist, I cannot stand for it at the elections. However, it has been suggested that it would be helpful if I produced a brief description of what I believe the job should entail, and why I think I would be able to do it. If it is agreed that such a position should be created, this might help in formalising the role. This "manifesto" might also help the Captain decide whether he or she thinks I am the right person for the job.
My proposed job description
- To recruit coxes for the Men's and Women's Boat Club, both for senior crews and for novice ones.
- To coach the coxes, to give them advice, and to encourage them.
- To assist lain and the Captains in selecting the coxes for the different crews.
- To pass onto coxes the advice of their crews and coaches.
- To be responsible for the electronics required for coxing and coaching.
- To represent the interests of coxes at committee meetings.
- To assist in all aspects of coxing within "First and Third", and to provide coxes with the ability to make their collective views known to the Boat Club.
Why I believe I am appropriate for the position
- I have been actively involved with rowing for over five years, as both a cox, and as a qualified coach, so am able to provide advice and coaching to coxes.
- I was in charge of all internal competitions and recreational rowing within a very large boat club at school, including organising the annual bumps competition. This
- gave me a lot of experience of organisation and of dealing efficiently with administrative tasks.
- I do not intend to cox next year, so there will be no conflict on interest.
- I am interested in the "Boat Club", and would like to remain involved and to continue to contribute to it.
Since this is not, strictly speaking, a "manifesto", I do not need to be proposed or seconded for the job. However, the Men's and Women's Captains, have agreed to support me:
Proposed: John Earl, men's captain
Seconded: Sally Painter, women's captain
