Rules for Scullers at First and Third
- All those wanting to use small boats must book them online for each outing. Under no circumstances should a boat be on the water without a booking being made through this system.
- Check the conditions (particularly wind and stream) before going out; no-one should be out during a thunderstorm.
- All those on the water must know and abide by the rules of the river. These can be found on the CUCBC website. Be especially mindful of which side to row on, and the use of 'come by' and 'look ahead' calls.
- Inexperienced rowers learning to scull should initially go out in Tracey with a bank-steerer, who must be an experienced sculler.
-
Anyone wishing to go out without a bank-steerer or to use boats other than Tracey must obtain approval from the Boatman,
the Men's Captain or the Women's Captain. This will usually require a competence test - please contact the Lower
Boats Captains to arrange this. Experienced rowers who want to learn to scull may instead contact their Captain
directly for approval.
- If there is any doubt as to the competency of the crew, pairs and doubles must always have an experienced bank-steerer. No-one can steer a pair/double without asking the relevant Captain's permission first.
- Pike and Amartya Sen are only to be used by rowers on the men's side (or with the permission of the Men's Captain), Eel and Freya by rowers on the women's side (or with the permission of the Women's Captain). Tracey and Muddy Waters are available to both sides of the Club. Mixed doubles may use Amartya Sen.
- Do not make major adjustments (such as rerigging) to any boats without permission from the relevant captain.
- Wipe down or wash your boat after each outing. If there's still a tidemark, it's not clean enough.
- Please leave the boat bays unobstructed, particularly the singles racks.
